Almonds
In 2004, Carriere Family Farms became a partner in Premier Nut Company. Premier Nut Company was formed to take advantage of two relationships that had formed over the preceding years with Borges S.A. and Orchard Valley Harvest.
Borges of California was trying to buy almonds for the Spanish market and was having a tough time getting the full value for larger size Non Pareil and Carmel almonds. Orchard Valley Harvest was having the opposite problem since their main market was domestic, roasted and salted, and other retail, they have no use for the blanching stock.
Premier solved both problems by combining the needs of each customer. Today Premier Nut Company still focuses on supplying our two main customers, Orchard Valley Harvest and Borges S.A. with grower product. Our facility in Westley, California is in its fifth year of operation. We process about 10 million pounds of conventional and organic brown skin almonds. We have state of the art sizing and sorting technology in place to clean up huller byproduct as well as running sheller run almonds from local growers.
Occasionally Premier has almonds to sell to the industry when the conditions are right. We certainly follow prices very closely and when we feel that there are opportunities out in the market we are ready to act. With our facility in a centrally valley location we can process quickly efficiently and get the product to market in a timely fashion, whether that be the Port of Oakland or your local grocery store.
Rice & Olive Oil
Although we do farm rice and olive oil, we do not currently market or sell it.
